Village Institutions take place an important place within the Turkish Educational History. Those schools were established in 21 villages of Anatolia and lasted less than 10 years. They were the schools of Ataturk and his enlightenment period. If they were living now, all the villages would have been at a wonderful condition with their inhabitants. Nearly 15,00 young people were trained there and now their 2nd and 3rd generations are still well behaved and well-educated citizens.
There are some NGos in Turkey working with the philosophy of those institutions and/or at least trying to introduce their philosophy to new generations. One of them is the "New Generation Village Institutioners Society" and I am the vice president of its Istanbul Branch. Last Sunday we held a meeting at Istanbul technical University's Macka campus to bring all the ex-graduates and give "Honorary Certificate" to the female graduates. The view was very impressive. Some well-known names like; Mualla Eyüboğlu, Pakize Türkoğlu, Mehmet Başaran, Cengiz Bektaş, Tahsin Çayır and Bahattin Fırtına were there and amde us very happy. Young people have been impressed a lot by their contemporary outlook and talks.
Have a nice week.
