Loves from Fethiye

My Dearest Colleagues,
Towards the end of the Eid, following an opportunity we flew to the south-west corner of Türkiye and came to Fethiye, Muğla this morning. It will last only 3 days to stay in Paradise and then I will fly to another paradise, called Mauritius. How lucky I feel myself with these unexpected candies, I cannot tell you! You can see 3 different views from Fethiye and Dead Sea (Ölü Deniz). Today is the 10th of December, it is a winter day and some people were swimming in the sea, can you imagine?
On Monday, our journey to Mauritius will start and I have been very excited for meeting old and new dosts and also witnessing some new methodologies for the training of the disabled (Challenged) students.
I wish you also realize your dreams this week just like me. Loves,
Hayal Köksal

Fest of Sacrifice & Its Reflections on Us

Dear Dosts,
I wish you a Fest of Sacrifice ornamented with love, peace and tolerance.
After the Feast of Ramadan we should emphasize the main aim of this Religious Day as it must have been. What is it? To help our colleagues, relatives and friends who are in need of our help and thus not to destroy the philosophy of our young children who love their sheep or cows just like their own pets. Let's make use of the good characteristics of our religion to bring up peace-lover generations. I wanted to share the caricature which was sent by a friend of mine_Suzan_ to emphasize this feature. I send my best wishes to her due to her sharing it with us.
We will be in Fethiye on 10th -13th December to meet our colleagues, and in Mauritius on 15th-22nd December to share the wonderful projects of the Challenged Students.
With an endless love to you...

Challenged Students & 3rd December

Dear all,
Tomorrow is the "World Challenged People Day". The challenged ones are not different from the ones who are our dearests. Furthermore; it is a reality to become one of them due to some unexpected accidents or misfortunes. While the fact is like this; it is not justice to seperate one of the days of the year to "the handicapped" and to feel relieved. The most important thing to give the following feelings to such dearest dosts:
- S/he is not different from us as the human value,
- Our main responsibility is to understand their problems and to show real efforts to find solutions for them,
- To teach them some effective ways and tools on the way of empowering them in their own daily life procedures. Thus, to make them free from the compulsory help of others.
Feeling pity and even showing this negative feeling to them, furthering them and even insulting them are not the behavious of a qualified human being. Such kind of attitude is a sign of an "sick brain"!
Dear Dosts, I participated in a Unesco Workshop on 27-29 November in Antalya. It was about "Education for All (EFA)". It was very inspiring and useful for me. The first item of the FEA Program of Unesco was as follows:
"To give importance to the preschool education, especially for the challenged ones."
Through brainstorming and project offerings, EFA was supported by the participants who are mainly from NGOs, Universities and the Ministry of National Education. A few of those projects were for the Challenged ones. These are very motivating activities. However; on such an important day, I want to share my sadness with you:
On the very first day of September I got an invitation from the Convener of an International convention_Mr Mohundas Teeluck_ to the "1st International Convention on the Challenged Students Empowerment (ICCSE)" which will be realized by the collaboration of the'World Council for Total Quality & Excellence in Education (WCTQEE)' & 'Mauritius Government" in Mauritius on 17-19 December, 2008. I was invited with a large number Turkish delegation to the event as the Chief Coordinator of Turkey (I am the Director General of WCTQEE and ı also conduct projects with the challenged students). This event is the FIRST within the world and it has a great improtance for the challenged ones. In order to tell our special schools, activities, seminars and NGOs for the handicapped ones, it is a good opportunity. In addition to this, our two challenged speakers from the 11th ICSQCC had been specifically invited to that event as the special talks. Oh my dear colleagues, what a pity but we could not find any funding for those 2 students and their nurses to go to mauritius. I feel hopeless after a three-month- effort for searching some sponsors. While students coming from other countries are presenting their projects, we (with my journalist friend) will only watch them, feel happy for them but feel bad for the Turkish ones who are not able to go there due to financial reasons. We knocked on every related door_state, private and NGO. We tried to reach at higher authorities but could not realize our dreams. We informed all the famous daily newspapers but only one of them has been interested in it. This is so sad. I wonder if it is the same for my other colleagues, for other DGs. I will learn about it soon.
Yes, tomorrow is the Day for the Challenged ones. We must think more and longer about this issue. We, Turks are known as one of the most haspitable and helpful people. Let's prove it. Our Metropolitan Municipality has had 18 Special Center for the Challenged people. We have a General Directorate within the Ministry of National Education and we have hundreds of NGOs concerning the handicapped. We still have a few days more to find support for 4 people who will talk about their project. Besides, Mauritius does not ask for Visa for the participants. The mauritius Government will afford all the room, food and transfer expenses. The only load for us to but the plane tickets and leave for Mauritius with the projects and papers to be presented there.
Now, hear our voice and help us to realize this dream for the Turkish challenged people. If we cannot do this, as a teacher I will lose my faith to Education, Collaboration and ...
I hope we will be there and prove the power of İmece to the whole world. Thanks to you_Mohundas for this great work you realized.

Self-Questioning

Dear All,
After the busy months of the Summer and the Fall, I still feel the great emptiness of those speedy days and I miss them. However, my family insist on my resting for some time and thus they want me to support my tired body. My feelings & my love for creating more projects are in one hand and my health & wishes of my family are on the other. They are trying to convince me to lessen the burden of my projects upon my shoulders. For me, the former is more important but for them; the latter!
Working hard for long hours never makes me step back but the obstacles before us... This is the most important criterion to lessen my work. For years and years, I have been working hard to create and to lead many projects. If you have a supporting body behind you to lead successful projects, there exists no problem. However, we all know that educational projects are rarely supported and publicized by media. The world has changed a lot, and the education seems to have lost its affect and charm on people. What a pity!
The newly appeared values & beliefs lead our youngesters to dangerous and violent-focused valleys...How will we save them? It seems to be difficult. We need the support of not only schools and parents but also the other powerful environments and means like; media, politicians, and even religious people. Ethical side of human beings seems to have changed its target. Money is the most powerful motivator for the youth. Is it so, in reality? To realize this, what are needed? To reach at a certain age? T have a different type of training? Friends? What?
I have been combatting for improving the quality level of individuals, organizations and especially schools since 1992. How successful have I become? Was it and also is it easy? Why and why not? What are the main ingredients? Do we have all of them for the sustainability? As you guess; these are very difficult questions... This puzzle must be solved but how? Such kind of self- questioning makes my mind busy nowadays. I wanted to share one part of it. Do you feel the same? If you do, why do not you write to me? Sharing is one important way of creating synergy. If you agree, please share your thoughts...
With love and peace.

Dali, Village Institutions & Lions and A Dost from USA

Dear Dosts,
We spent a wonderful weekend. It was lovely to return to my busy and active days again.
On Friday, I had a very nice day with my friend who came here from Seattle to give a seminer_Shelee King George. On that night we participated in a piano Concert and a special night which was organized by Lions to support and resonstruct the old Kepirtepe Village Institution buildings on the way of making them Culture Center. On Sunday we went to the Dali Exhibition with my friends and it was excellent.
This morning with the e mails of my friends I have filled with positive energy. There are also good developments for our efforts for the "1.ICCSE" Mauritius Organization. All these things have given me motivating signals for a fruitful week. Loves and peace...

The Great Leader who realized not only his but also our dreams: Atatürk!

The great leader atatürk is always with us after so many years of his passing away. He had his great dreams and he realized all of them one by one and thus caused us to have dreams, as well. His place is in our hearts and his principles are just at the center of our deeds.
We have been aware of the importance of his reforms. Without them, we would not be able to live freely on such a beautiful and free land. Nothing or no one can change his place within our hearts. We feel a great honour and pride for being his followers and one of his children. All the Turkish people must be aware of the great chance of being one of his sons and/or daughters of him. Even most of the foreign people feel like this, after learning about his wonderful life story. The only way of training real TQPs is to lead them with Atatürk's rules and principles. The only source for this is his "Lecture (Nutuk)". Read it, internalize it and accept is as a "real life guide" to become productive, happy, healthy and contemporary citizen. We commemorate our great Leader Atatürk with a deeper love after 70 years of his death physically.

The slogan of the this year is;

b- Blog,

e- Art (Drawing, collage, sculpture, poster, etc.),
f- Music & Dance,
g- Whatever you do as a reform? (Use your creativity!).
This year we have 2 NEW Points :
1.Handicapped / Challenged students teams and parents are invited to participate in the projects.

Dear all,
Today I went to an Exhibition at Ortaköy Afife Jale art gallery. The exhibition was one of the events which have been organized for the 85th anniversary of the foundation of Turkish Republic:
"ATATÜRK -PHOTO COVERED MAGAZINES" EXHIBITION
Within the exhibition there were some photos out of 350 which have been printed since 1924 and it was opened by the Troya Folklore Research Association and some private collections of the president İlhan Gülek had taken place within it. Those magazines might also be visited during the Tüyap book fair which will be open between 1-9 November, 2008. I believe it will take your attention. The most interesting piece was the magazine named; "Child Week" and its date was 1963. I wanted to share it with you.

Sharings...

Dear All,
On Wednesday I gave the first TQE Lecture to teachers and teacher trainees at Boğaziçi University. I would like to thank once more to all of them. Today, I would like to share different issues with you:

1. About the film about Mustafa (Atatürk):
Can Dündar, a famous journalist, researcher, writer and documentary film maker shot a film, named 'Mustafa' and it will be on at cinemas after 29th October which is the 85th Anniversary day of foundation of the Turkish Republic by the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The music composer of the film is Goran Bregovich. You can watch the fragment of it from: http://www.mustafa.com.tr .

2. About the "1. International Challenged Students Empowerment Convention" which will be held in Mauritius:
The Convener; Mohundas Teeluck says; "I am indeed very elated to extend our invitation to you to attend world's first International Convention of Challenged Students Empowerment-2008 slated for Dec., 17-19 in Mauritius. The convention is being organized in collaboration with CMS Lucknow with expressed approval and support of the Government Of Mauritius through its Cabinet Decision.
The issue of "Human Right and World Peace and Unity" can only be adequately addressed if the millions of visually/physically challenged students the world over are brought under the ambit of Quality Movement for quality life. It is under this back drop the theme of the convention is 'Every Human Life has the same Value'. Global Council for Challenged Students Empowerment is dedicated for the cause of million hapless and left out challenged students worldwide needing facilitation, felicitation, motivation and societal, govermental, and NGO's meanigful support to bring them into the main stream of human society." We wish good luck to our dearest Dost and we will do our best to assist him.

3. A very Sad Loss:
We lost the great poet, Fazıl Hüsnü Dağlarca yesterday. He was a great name not only for Turkish Literature but also for the whole world. All the libraries are full of with his marvelous works of art. We will never forget about this nature and peace-lover great expert.

As you can easily notice, life flows away just like a river. The most important thing is to leave a "Peaceful and fruitful bunch of memories within the mind of humanity and to live the moment." Believe in yourself and also never ignore the power of LOVE! I wish you a very happy weekend.

Feedback

Dear All,
We live in a very difficult and changing era. While we were celebrating the "World Teachers' Day" with the sweet taste of the Ramadan Feast, we fell into the great shock of our 15 martyries. Wer are all aware of the "Ying Yeng Philosophy". We are together living in a "black and white; good and bad world" and we are trying to bring "peace and harmony" to the world for the sake of our future generations. However, it is so sad to lose such young and brave 15 soldiers due to the terrorism. They were trying to finalize their military responsibilities. They had dreams for their own lives and for their families. They were full of energy and enthusiasm. While listening about such tragic events I believe once more necessity of the "peace education at schools". CMS syas; "Catch them young". If we catch the young brains on the way of peace at an early step; the world , I believe, would be somewhere totally different_just like a paradise... The developed, powerful countries should use their power on the way of helping the needful ones to support them, not for the war or terrorism. Books about love and respect should be printed at huge numbers to be read instead of making fatal weapons. I believe many people thinnk the same but it cannot be turned into practice. What is the solution? Where is the way out?
While starting to write my blog, I had many nice thoughts in my mind: All the happy events, projects, new academic developments and even 2008 Innovative Teachers Forum...All of them disappeared. I could only share 2 nice feedback with you. One from my dearest sister Dr. Kamran (with her permission) and one from my dearest Dost, Mr.David Hutchins.
Let's pray for a better and peaceful world altogether.
Hayal Köksal

1. My Dearest Hayal,

I am extremely sorry, I am writing to you late. Actually I was very unwell after the car accident. But God is Great and because of the Blessings and Best wishes of my friends, I am feeling better and have resumed my office from today. What a great conference, Dear Hayal- it was really one of the best conferences I have ever attended. The thoughtful planning and meticulous execution by you has made it an event to be remembered and cherished forever by all of us.Right from the Airport, the moment we touched your most beautiful country and the city of Istanbul - it was a mesmerizing experience for all of us. The transport arrangements were always perfect and you had the great patience - to be at the Airport and receive many of the teams.Reaching Yeditepe was again a different world all together. The stay arrangements were very comfortable. The serenity, neatness, cleanliness and ambience at this University is impeccable. The most modern infrastructure blended with traditional heritage makes this institute as one of the rare seats of learning and no wonder it shall soon become as one of the most sought after Universities in the world. It was very wise of you to choose this University for the conduct of the conference.Prof. Dr. Nilufer Eğrican also played a pivotal role in the success of the convention. She is an iron lady with lots of experience and wisdom and stood like a pillar of strength behind you. Dr. Ayse Akyel's and Prof Baykal's roles are also indeed very praiseworthy. The food arrangements were also looked after personally by you with lots of care and attention. It was very thoughtful of you to get continental, Indian, Turkish, veg and non veg varieties of dishes served at the conference. Altogether the food was indeed very delicious and sumptuous. Our children were missing it while on their journey way back home. The programming of the conference was also well planned and had a perfect execution. The keynote and special addresses were very enriching. All the other streams were also running smoothly and the children were able to bring out their best. The auditorium and other conference halls provided a very good setting to the whole conference. The set of volunteers "Ask Me" won the hearts of everyone. They were always smiling, courteous and were very very helpful. They were the true stars behind the show. We could see the student empowerment in action. The cultural programme was also scintillating and the students performed with lots of zest and vigour. Typhoon was the cynosure of many eyes. The gifts, kitbags, shirts, keychains, badges, folders all spoke volumes about your quality and excellence. Trophies were so beautiful and well designed and glittered every one during the valedictory session.Dearest Hayal, you are a very dedicated, devoted woman with lots of determination. You are one woman army but at the same time also knows how to carry a team with your leadership capabilities. David is very right to point out that in CMS it is much easier with lots of manpower and infrastructure around. But for you it was just starting from a scratch and you DREAMT you DARED and you DID it.We all salute you, dear Servet, Yeditipe University and all members of your team who made it an astounding success, an event which has left an ever lasting impression upon our minds. A new quality AVATAR is born in you and we look up towards you with great awe and inspiration. The World Council For Total Quality and Excellence In Education shall always remain indebted to Prof. John Jay Bonstingl for introducing you to the CMS family and to our Quality World. The executive body meeting of the WCTQEE was also historic and brought forth many important decisions. Prof. Mary Stuart's election as an Advisor to the WCTQEE, Prof. Richard as the Vice Chairman of the WCTQEE and the inclusion of Mr. Ranjit as the Director General of WCTQEE and Chris as the European Co-coordinator for Youth are indeed important landmarks. It was also decided that UK shall be hosting the ICSQCC 2014 under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Mary Stuart, which shall again prove to be a milestone for the history of this movement.Once again, we all thank you for making the dream of ICSQCC 2008 a reality. With best wishes and loves,
Vineeta

In the following year, we will all meet at CMS, Lucknow, India. Thus; a stronger tie among the youths of different countries will have been formed then.
Last Wednesday, my course named; "Innovative Teaching" started. I belive with my new students, new projects will be improved on the way of training innovative minds.
After the Feast of Ramadan, we will start our projects. I hope you all a happy and healthy Ramadan Bayram. With love and peace...

The First "Ask Me" Meeting

Dear All,
Our efforts to finalize the post-convention work still goes on. After sending the Certificates to the winners, we realized the first "ASK ME" meeting. As you all know, they were the ones who helped us a lot do realize the event successfully. 11 of them were at my home-office yesterday. All day long, we talked about the interesting facts, persons and outstanding achievements with them. We had all signed to the success of the event altogether and we had lived an unforgattable event in a multi-national gathering in our magnificent Istanbul. I believe all the other children and adults who took part in the event have still been feeling like us. We all managed it. Thank you once more...
After such a happy end; we still think that; "Why do wee still witness war, or understandings, or any kind of terrorism? This is not undestanable!!!
I wish you all a very happy Sunday together with your lovely families...

We are All One!

Dear Dosts,
We still remember with a great joy and love the days we spent during the 11th ICSQCC. All the wonderful memories are enriched by the lovely feedbacks and beautiful photos. They have been so vivid that we , once more, feel happy thinking that we realized our responsibility on the way of peace, love, respect, tolerance, sharting, caring and representing our countries well. My tean and I have full of peace. Those photos were taken on 27th Night of August while taking a Bosphorus Tour on a Cruise. I would like to present my deepest gratitutes to the authorities of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, especially to my dearest Dost Tülay Erünsal and dearest Secretary General Muammer Erol.
Yogi, the teacher of the Little Angels School, India, described that lovely night like this;
"Istanbul is an incredible city. On the Bosphorus tour, we felt ourselves as if we were passing by a postcard..."
Do we need any other words to describe our feelings! In order to read more feedback about the event, please visit: http://www.hayalkoksal.com/en/convention. With love and peace...

NOTE: All those ladies on the photos have given the best samples of "being sisters"!. I am thankful to them.

FINAL PROGRAM is FINALLY READY

Deal Colleagues,
We have nearly come to the final steps of the 11. ICSQCC organization. Next Saturday morning we will meet the first team at the airport.

This is a very unique opportunity aspecially for the Turkish educators and for the school people, for the diversity of the speakers, participants and activities is surprisingly great. However, the low interest rate of the Turkish participants surprises us. Of course, we are aware of the hot summer days and holiday, and also the preparations for the Ramadan days... but this is something rarely happens at any place of the world. I wonder how many participants and who will be with us?
Within this Convention; quality experts and school people coming from 15 countries will be with us, in ıstanbul Yeditepe University. 20 keynote speakers, 4 Workshops, 12 Special Addresses we have had. On the other hand; 19 İmece Circle, Case Study Presentations, 22 Collage Teams, 22 poster & slogan teams, 10 Debate teams, 11 drama & 5 Local Dance Shows will take you to different countries of the world on the way of training Total Quality Persons.

Why don't you participate in the event? Please have a look at the attached program and participant list. This is a sharing and caring event for us. Do not leave us alone! Come and join to our İmece...

Loves,

Hayal KÖKSAL

IMECE RESULTS in...

Dear Colleagues,
İmece & Collaboration are the most important cultural values of our community. However, we seem to have forgotten these precious issues from time to time. Thinking that they are the main ingredients of the World Peace and Harmony, we put forward the word; "İMECE" at such a big international gathering which focuses on the bringing up TQPs.
Within the preparations of the 11th CSQCC our dearest colleagues support us as good samples of İmece. One of these belongs to Ms. Tülay Çellek. She is a unique person and artist on "Creativity and Design" and she gives unforgattable courses at Istanbul YıldızTechnical University. She not oly helps us publicize the Convention through her web page, but also plans to give a Workshop on "Design, Peace and Creativity". I think the best thing now is to visit her web page to see her excellent work:

Our Great Loss: "Nelum De Silva"

Dear All,
I have learned with a great sorrow that our lovely, always-smiling and motivating, dearest sister Nelum passed away yesterday morning.
She was an angel sent to hug all the humanity. She had such a big heart for all of us!
We, as the Turkish family of her, share the pain of this great loss with her lovely family and all her close friends. Our prayers will be for De Silva family. I am sure she had taken her place in Heaven. I hope God provide strength and courage to her family to overcome this great loss.
As the Convenor of the 11th ICSQCC, I propose giving a new “Award” within the ICSQCC to her name.
Best regards,

Schools & ICT Seagulls Projects End in Türkiye

Dear Colleagues,
Today was the last day of the 2007-2008 Academic year for all schools in Türkiye. From the early days of September, all the parties related to educational world were in rush. At least students and parents will be in a great peace and harmony until September. I wish them a good rest. However, learning is continual and you all have to go on reading and conducting some interesting hobbies which will contribute you a lot.
On Sunday, all the high school graduates will take the University Entrance Exam (ÖSS). I wish them good luck.
If you ask me, ı will have to be very busy until the final days of October, and then the new academic year will have started by then. This is a very busy life style, isn't it? It seems tiring, but I love it, for I love being with young people and learn from them.
Dear all, the 5th International ICT Seagulls Projects ended on 10th June and all the hard-working circles handed in their web page addresses and CDs. Nearly 40 teams have successfully completed the projects. I would like to congratulate them. Tomorrow, the self-assessment phase will start. At the end of June, the judges will meet and the final assessment will be done. The Award Ceremony will take place during the 11th ICSQCC. They deserve to be known and also to be awarded. In a short time, you will see the web addresses of those circles on http://www.bilisimcimartilar.com/. The assessment part will include their web addresses which also hold English ppts of the projects. :) .
The developments concerning the 11th ICSQCC go on and I try to share them with you day by day. I appreciate Mr.Dheeraj's efforts and support to me through Skype. He also helps me via his web page. Please visit his web page. Thank you very much Dheeraj. You are a very good friend.
I say goodbye to all. With peace and love...

Other gaining were new friends and collecting money for the needed students. Ont he way of training Total Quality Persons (TQP), we have to come together with different patrties of the schools. One is Alumni Center and the other is PTAs. Please try to create synergy through such activities on the way of supporting the young. Have a good week.

Kepirtepe Village Institution Visit

Dear All,
We visited the campus of Kepirtepe Anatolian Teachers' High School, 4 km away from Luleburgaz on 1st June. Within the campus of the High school there existed a very sad-looking set of buildings which once used to ,belong to Kepirtepe Village ınstitutions. Those schools were the schools of Enlightenment (Atatürk's) Period and the main goal was to improve the Turkish villages and villagers. More than 17,000 village boys and girls were trained in 6 years' time as teachers, health technicians and agriculture experts at 21 different village institutions located at every region of Turkey. But later on, due to some political reasons they were closed.
However, some non-governmental organizations like the Association for New Generation Village Institutioners, Lions and Kepirtepeliler Foundation decided to support those old buildings as redesigning them as "Cultural Centers". If you want to support the one above, you can send some financial support to the Postal Draft number, 1346063 of Kepirtepeliler Foundation. A similar refrom was made for the İsparta, Gönen Village Institution and now Fakir Baykurt Culturel Center serve to the university students of Suleyman Demirel university. The aim is similar for Kepirtepe. The brick in our hands belonged to the old buildings of the Institution and there are K and E letters on them proving that all of them were made by the village institution students. We all believe that all the work in the light of science and wisdom will be fruitful. You must trust this. Have a healthy and fruitful week. Loves,
Hayal KÖKSAL

Turkey celebrates 19th May

Today is 19th May. We remember the revolutions and priciples of our great leader ATATÜRK once more and with a great excitement. Today is celebrated not only as a festival day of "Youth and Sports" but also as his birthday. For, he started the Independence War of Turks towards our inner and outer enemies who had dirty goals upon Turkey like conquering and dividing it. And then in 2 years' time he founded the Turkish republic and presented it to the Turkish youth. He also accepted today as his birthday.

We owe our lives to him. Our hopes depend upon our idealistic, Atatürk-follower daughters and sons. We believe and trust them. Long live Turkish Republic founded by contemporary patriots.

Yours.

Never-Ending Working!

Dear Colleagues,
I gave the last session of my course. Those bright young teacher trainees created a8 wonderful İmece Circles about Village Institutions Philosophy which still constitutes the most outstanding Educational Model within the Turkish Educational History. Within those institutions the village children learned how to learn through active learning, loved reading through classical books, learned how to play a musical institute and gain the classical music taste, dealt with art, literature and folk cancing in addition to agriculture, farming, animal raising, health issues and so on. The 2nd and 3rd generations of the graduates still keep on learning and preserving those contemporary skills and habits. My students learned about all these things and conducted projects based upon it. They added value to my "Quality in Teaching" course. I am proudful with them. Wish "Good luck" to all of them.
The books you see above are the ones I wrote for the educational faculties and in-service training programs of teachers. Some of them needed to be prepared for the 2nd or 3rd editions. Some will be published for the first time. Three of them are in English. I am open all kinds of proposals about them. With love and peace...
