INVITATION for ICT SEAGULLS PROJECT

YOU ARE INVITED to the 7th YEAR of ICT SEAGULLS PROJECT WHICH FOCUSES on “ART & TQPs” in 2010...
The "International KALBE-MER ICT Seagulls Project" is going to start its 7th year with the emphasis on "ART". According to the quality-based philosophy of the Project, every team, finalizing all the steps properly, is a “winner”. One of our targets is keeping web sites and blogs alive even after the announcement of results in addition to following the rules and regulations. So the ex-participants should also go on exhibiting and sharing their projects with the community.
The only theme of this year is; “ART”.
In other words; no other project topic will be included in the studies this year. All the teams will focus on one question, in their own environment which might be their school, their village/town/city or country:
On the way of training qualified citizens, why is ART important and essential? Do we give the necessary importance to ART in our schools or home? What are the main problems of our school (?) concerning the art education? How can we solve them? How can we create awareness of ART-NECESSITY for TQPs among the school partners like teachers, parents and other community members?

We will take PDCA Mindset steps as we used to do. We will implement activities of art and will share everything on our web pages or Blogs.
What kinds of branches are included in “Art”?
* All of the two-dimensional studies like; all kinds of drawings on paper, material or wall, poster, graphics, caricature, photograph, batik, ornamenting, etc.
* Three-dimensional arts like; sculpture, ceramic, relief, etc.
* Landscape architecture for gardens or rooms.
* Literature (Novel, short-story, poetry, essay writing, scenario, film or drama manuscripts, etc.
* Music (All kinds)
* Performance Arts: Ballet, folk dances, dance, etc.
* Dramatic arts: Drama, opera, musical play, puppet show, cinema,
Target Age Groups:
For the year 2010, all the levels of schools starting from Pre School Education College students (including MA or MS levels) will be able to register to “ICT Seagulls Circles”. We also invite “Challenged” teams to participate in. The State and Private schools will be assessed within the same platform.
Registration:
In order to take part in this project, project school leaders and also project leaders must apply personally to be a member school of KALBE-MER (Quality & Peace Education Center of Hayal Köksal). All the steps of the project (starting from the registration to the delivery) are conducted with the collaboration of the Center.
This is a voluntary project. Please do not force your teachers or/and students to take part in it. They must be volunteer. Another prerequisite is the physical conditions of the school. All the circle members including the teacher leaders should be technologically literate and have e-mail accounts.
This project does not provide any financial award, except from a Momentum and a Certificate. Gaining İmece (Collaboration) spirit and learning through the project are considered as the awards of the project.
Project Steps:
School Administration Level:
Project leaders_ leading teacher and the school principal_ apply to Hayal Köksal to show their interest and commitment to the project. The school becomes a member school after making the necessary calls and/or visits.
The school principal, leading teacher(s) and the Coordinator (Dr. Köksal) sign the protocol.
The school administration support and provide the project teams with the necessary permissions, technological equipment and place to conduct the project throughout the academic year.
Project Team level:
1. The ICT Seagulls Project is conducted through the “İmece Circles©/Students’ Quality Circles” system based upon the PDCA Mindset (Plan, Do, Check, Act).
2. Project topic, concerning ART is determined by all circle members including parents.
3. After the determination of the problem area, all the members conduct a deep “Literature Reviewing” through the Internet and the libraries in order to get the necessary info about the problem.
4. The road map of the project is drawn by means of using some quality tools. At this step, getting help and guidance from Dr. Köksal is compulsory. The strategic plan should be approved by her before the project journey starts. If the team starts the project before the approval, it is disqualified. For, that plan is the key factor for a healthy project process.
5. By using quality tools, the main and root causes of the problem are determined by the whole team. Then, tactics and strategies are identified. The questionnaire is prepared. Seminars and activities to solve problems related to “art & art education” are planned.
6. On the way of using necessary data collection tools, pre- and post-tests are applied; before, while and after the implementation. The rate of the success is measured.
7. All the steps and activities are shared with the community by using either a web page or a blog.
Evaluation of the Projects:
2010 ICT Seagulls Projects will be evaluated at three different steps:
1. Preliminary Step: The General coordinating body of the projects (Kalbe-Mer) will approve the projects at the final step just before starting their peer-assessment phase of the circles. The following criteria will be taken into consideration:
a). Obeying time restrictions (managing time).
b). Following the general rules of the project during the project steps.
c). Designing and sharing the outcomes of the project according to the rules.
d). Delivering the Project CD and web page address at a complete and timely manner.
2. Peer-Assessment Step: All the circles from different countries will assess the other projects (excluding theirs). There will be 30 points of 10 criteria and this grade will form the 60% of the whole grading (See the criteria below). Circle members are also expected to correspond with the other circles’ members living at different countries. The circles from the same schools cannot assess their school-mates.
3. Jury Assessment: The jury members will assess all the projects based on the same criteria mentioned above. It will constitute of the 40% of whole assessment. The artistic assessment will be done by the related experts. They will prepare the criteria concerning each area and inform the participants.
Our Judges: are the wellknown experts of academia, IT and Art.

World Quality Day

HAPPY WORLD QUALITY DAY!

What is World Quality Day?
World Quality Day was introduced by the United Nations in 1990 to increase worldwide awareness of the important contribution that quality makes towards a nation's and an organisation's growth and prosperity.
The purpose
The purpose of World Quality Day is to promote awareness of quality around the world and to encourage individuals' and organisations' growth and prosperity.
In a global economy where success depends on quality, innovation and sustainability, World Quality Day is your chance to reinforce these as the foundations of your organisation and focus on the importance of quality.
Why quality?
The term quality is everywhere, in all aspects of life. For organisations, however, deploying quality approaches is a prerequisite for creating a sustainable business.

Remembering Ataturk

ATATURK'S PHYSICAL DEATH
Ataturk was the father of Turks and He has had millions of daughters and sons. I believe not only me but also you are one of them. We are not only within Turkey; but every part of the world. Those who believe in; "Peace at home, Peace in the World" are considered as one of his children. That means, as peace-lovers; we do not only have some definite anchestors but many pioneers from different parts like Gandhi, Washingthon, Victoria, etc. We are all one.
I wanted to share an article of a Turkish gentleman about the death of Ataturk. Here it is. Loves and peace...
Hayal Koksal

I am Remembering Ataturk
Every year at 9:05 a.m. on 10th November, the entire country stops to observe the moment of Ataturks's death.
Turkish people pay tribute to the father of their modern republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, with nationwide memorial services on November 10th of every year. During the day, which marks the anniversary of Ataturk's death, the entire country stops all activities for two minutes at 9:05 a.m., the moment of his death. This includes all vehicular and pedestrian traffic as well.
The beginning of the silence is announced by blowing sirens, car horns, as well as train, ship and factory whistles. Flags are lowered to half-staff and the national anthem is played at ceremonies at schools, military bases, government offices, and factories. Programs on Ataturk's life and accomplishments are broadcast by the Turkish media all day long.
Ataturk, the founder and first president of the modern Republic of Turkey, was born in 1881 in Salonica, Greece, then a part of the Ottoman Empire. Ataturk was young when his father, Ali Riza, died. His mother, Zubeyde, had to leave Salonica and move to her brother's farm. Instead of school, Ataturk worked on the farm, and his mother worried about his lack of schooling. Eventually he returned to Salonica to attend middle school. He took the military school entrance exam in 1893 without telling his mother.
Once at the military school, Mustafa developed a special interest in mathmatics. He attempted problems well in advance of those taught in class. One day the teacher said to him, "look here. Your name is Mustafa, so is mine. We can't let things go on like this. There must be some distinction between us. I suggest you call yourself Mustafa Kemal from now on." He did; Kemal means "perfection."
Mustafa Kemal entered the military academy in 1899. He graduated from General Staff College as a captain in 1905 and was assigned to the 5th Army Corp in Syria. There he saw the disorganization of the army and civilian administration and realized that something had to be done to save the country. In 1909 when mutiny broke out in Istanbul, Mustafa Kemal was an army officer who helped suppress the reactionaries. That same year, the Italians attacked Libya, then a part of the Ottoman Empire. He began organizing the local people against the invaders.
Mustafa Kemal went from one battle to another. During World War I, the Ottomans joined the war on Germany's side, fighting against the British, French, Italians, and the Russians. Mustafa Kemal's defeat of the British armada at Gallipoli made him a hero. In 1915, he was in Diyarbakır and stemmed the Russian advance. In 1916, he was fighting in Southern Palestine.
Being on the losing side, the Ottoman armies were disarmed and disbanded. On May 15th, 1919, the Greeks landed at Izmir. Mustafa Kemal went to Samsun near the Black Sea on May 19th, 1919 and started the War of Independence. wherever he went, everybody--young and old, men and women, officers and civilians--followed him as the only savior of the country.
The Turkish Grand National Assembly opened April 23, 1920, under his chairmanship. A new army was formed to fight the occupying armies on all fronts. Three years of occupation finally ended and, with the Lausanne treaty giving full recognition to the new state, Mustafa Kemal proclaimed the modern Republic of Turkey and became its first president. Convinced that military victory was not sufficient, he felt the revolution had to be followed by profound economic, social, and cultural reforms.
During Ataturk's 15-year administration, the nation moved forward and embraced western standards. Ataturk set up schools in every village and town and changed the country's Arabic alphabet to Latin. He separated religious affairs from state affairs. Legal and modern reforms began. Women were granted equal rights with men. a completely new economic system was constructed and surnames (last names) were adopted.
In recognition for his efforts, Mustafa Kemal was given the surname "Ataturk" by the General Assembly, which means "father of the Turks." In the short span of his life, he achieved the rebirth of a nation. He died in Istanbul on November 10th, 1938, at 9:05 a.m. He was 57 years old.
Today he lives on in the minds and hearts of Turkish people. He represents a brave history, and the future pride of Turkey. Ataturk's body rests today in his mausoleum, called the Anıtkabir, in Ankara.

Social Responsibility

Dear All,
On the way of being a TQP; we should never ignore our responsibilities towards the community and also to the needful people around us. Yesterday I was invited the the headquarters of the Association for Solidarity with Physically Impaired (bedd) (http://www.bedd.org.tr/) in Dragos, Maltepe. I have been impressed a lot with the heartful and fruitful efforts of the true leader Mr. Kemal Demirel and his team.
Since last June, I have been one of the the members of the Advisory Council of "bedd" just like Mr. Ediz Hun (http://www.yesilsayfa.com/) who is one of the best actors of Turkish Cinema and a dedicated biologist on environmental sciences. We had a productive meeting with the leading committee and took some decisions on the way of supporting the challenged people. One of the decisions was to introduce the projects of the Association to the university youth to create awareness on them regarding the challenged and then to invite them to such projects. I invite all the people within the world to assist the disabled people to empower them. I also salute my dearest dost and brother Mohundas Teeluck (Coco) from Mauritius who is a real leader in this noble duty for all of us. Through his projects, my ambition to help the needed disabled ones has been awakened. I am grateful to him and to his wonderful family.
This year, within the circles of the ICT Seagulls Projects, there again will be "Challenged students' Circles". In fact, I invite all the 'abled' team leaders to include one or two 'disabled' ones in their teams. Life is lovely if we hug all the people around us. Together we stand.
I invite all the countries to take part in the ICT Seagulls Projects. The main theme of 2010 is: "To train quality persons through art, music and literature! The obstacles in for of us and some affective solutions". In order to get more info, please visit: http://www.bilisimcimartilar.com/ . There is also an English part on the page.
With love and peace...

ICT Skills: Essential for all Teachers and Teacher Trainees

Dear All,
Today I wanted to share my ICT background and my thoughts concerning ICT with you. The reason of this was my visit to www.globalmorality.com portal this morning. I saw some comments about the technology use and I wanted to write this. I hope you enjoy it.
A teacher is the one who should be running before the other citizens of the nation to update himself/herself to be a good resource and guide for his/her students. This has always been my motto while training my students. As a teacher trainer, I have been in this business for 34 years. In 1974-while I was a student at Izmir Teachers' Training College, one of my instructors had given me an assignment about "Using video in teaching". TV was a very new tool for us and video, naturaly, had sounded so awkward to me. I was watching black-white TV programs since 1973 it was a very shocking homework for me. I had felt hopeless for weeks and after tiring efforts I had found a picture of video in the Turkish-American library and had prepared a very simple one and I had handed it to my dearest instructor; Prof.Dr. Ömer Demircan. He has been always a pioneer in his field and he still is. My first experience with video was in 1986 after that. My video teacher, Prof. Susan Stempleski within the Full Bright program, taught us in detail how to use it effectively while teaching a foreign language.
Then, during my Ph.D. Classes in Gaziantep I had the opportunity of having a "Computers & Technology" course from a Russian IT professor. He was an excellent teacher and as a result of his motivation, I had dared to write my own dissertation on my new toy_Olivetti. It was so simple but much more better than a typewriter. I could the chance of deleting and rewriting the errors. Forthermore, I was not wasting paper. It took my looong nights to finalize my dissertation but it was my product. :)
Then, in 1995 I decided to participate my first international conference_ the 6th IFIP World Congress at Birmingham, UK. My paper had got the approval by the organizing committee to be presented. Its title was: "Reducing Teacher Resistance to Innovations". I know it is still a problematic issue in many places. After that, in 2001 I started to have web pages to share my thoughts with the world and I started online projects with NYDT, from South Africa.
2004 was the starting year of my ICT Seagulls Project. Through it, I am publicising SQCs as well. The same year was a landmark for me; I started collaborating with Microsoft Turkey and until the end of 2008, as one of their advisors I localized the PIL Innovative Teachers Program to Turkish schools. I trained 200 teachers and coaches to reduce the teacher resistance to change. My efforts still go on in Boğaziçi University for 6 terms with the "Innovative Teaching" Course to senior students of the Faculty of Education. Feedback I obtain from my ex-students, proves the importance of that course not only to the students but to the administrators of the Faculty. My e-book on this journey is being shared by the Ministry of National Education, Educational Technologies Department on the address of: www.yenilikciogretmenler.meb.gov.tr

Today: 86. Anniversary of the Foundation of the Turkish Republic

Ataturk and the Modernization of Turkey
Ataturk is the national hero of Turkey. He founded the modern Turkish Republic out of the ashes of the Ottoman Empire; an empire that was seen as the sick man of Europe at the turn of the century. His modern perspective created a new nation and a country, and a secular state understanding different from most other Islamic countries was introduced by him. Once you step in Turkey, you will see his statues and the busts all over. One of the best books written about Ataturk from a foreigner's point of view is the book titled " The Rebirth of a Nation" by Lord Kinross.
He was born in the year 1881 in Thessaloniki, at that time, within the Ottoman Empire's borders at that time, in Greece at present . His full name was Mustafa Kemal and the Ataturk surname, meaning the father of Turks, was given to him by the Turkish people (1934 November 24th.) in accordance with the reforms he introduced to create a modern Turkish country.
His background was military, and he served in various posts in the Ottoman army. During the First World War , he was the colonel in charge of Infantry at Gallipoli in 1915 and it was his genious defense tactics that prevented the allied forces ( British, French, Anzacs - Australians and New Zealenders and Senegalese) from capturing the Dardanelles and eventually Bosphorus.
His success and fast growing reputation disturbed the capital and to keep him under control he was promoted to Pasha ( General ). When the War ended the armies of the allied forces occupied nearly all corners of the country including
Istanbul. Sultan and many of the people saw a hopeful future in the acceptance of either the British or American mandate. Ataturk, however, had a very different vision. He left Istanbul in a small boat, namely Bandirma ( a nice model of the boat may be seen at the Ataturk Museum in Ataturk's Mausoleum, Ankara), going ashore at Samsun, a coastal town in the Black Sea, on the 19th. of May 1919 ( a date later to be presented by Ataturk to the Turkish Youth as the Turkish Youth Day), the day the War of Independence began. He wanted Independence.
First with skirmishes , in time with proper army troops, Ataturk and his army friends' armies started fighting the enemy. Ankara was chosen to be Ataturk's headquarter for its central location and the seeds of a new country were planted there. He and his friends wanted to replace the Monarchy with a Republic. The War of Independence took some three years and by the end of the year 1922, all of the invaders had left the country. The Ottoman Sultan fled in a British boat. The birth of a new nation had begun.
Ataturk's Revolutions
Political Revolutions:
The Sultanete was abolished in 1922, November 1st.The Republic was declared in 1923, October 29th.The Caliphship was abolished in 1924, March 3rd.

The Principles of Ataturk ( Kemalism):
The doctrines of Ataturk or Kemalism is a system of thought based on the facts of Turkey. It is shaped with the will of the Turkish nation through a long historical background. Above all, Kemalism is the introduction and the rendering of the rights to the nation. It is the expression of the national sovereignity. It is an attempt to reach the level of the modern civilizations, it is westernization, modernization. It requires to experience a modern social life, to establish a secular state, and to govern with a positive science mentality. The principles of Kemalism can be viewed in two groups: "The Basic Principles" and "The Complementary Principles".
The definition of the principles as Ataturk has expressed them:
The Basic Principles
RepublicanismNationalismPopularismEtatismSecularismRevolutionism
The Complementary Principles
National SovereignityNational IndependanceNational Unitiy and TogethernessPeace at home Peace abroadModernizationScientificism and RationalismHumanitarianism
Ataturk's Address to the Turkish Youth
Turkish youth!Your first duty is to project and preserve the Turkish independence and the Turkish Republic forever . This is the very foundation of your existence and your future. This foundation is your most precious treasure. In the future, too, there may be malovelent people at home and abroad, who wish to deprive you of this treasure. If some day you are compelled to defend your independence and your republic, you must not tarry to weigh the possibilities and circumstances of the situation before taking up your duty. These possibilities and circumstances may turn out to be extremely unfavorable. The enemies conspiring against your independence and your Republic may have behind them a victory unprecedented in the annals of the world. By violence and ruse, all the fortresses of your beloved fatherland may be captured, all its shipyards occupied, all its armies dispersed and every part of the country invaved. And sadder and graver than all these circumstances, those who hold power within the country may be in error, misguided and may even be traitors. Furthermore, they may identify their personal interests with the political designs of the invaders. The country may be impoverished, ruined and exhausted.
You, the youth of Turkey's future, even in such circumstances, it is your duty to save the Turkish independence and Republic. The strength you need is in your noble blood within your veins.
Long Live The Turkish Republic!

by Linda Hartling, 2004, Ph.D., Associate Director, Jean Baker Miller Training Institute, Wellesley College, Boston, USAIn our meetings we aim at creating a humiliation-free, collaborative learning environment characterized by mutual respect, mutual empathy, and openness to difference. The perspective of "appreciative enquiry" is a useful frame of our work. Our HumanDHS efforts are not just about the work we do together, but also about HOW WE WORK TOGETHER. At appropriate points during our meetings, for example at the end of each day, we take a moment to reflect on the practices observed that contributed to an appreciative/humiliation-free learning experience. It is important to emphasize that an appreciative approach is not about expecting people to agree. In fact, differences of opinion enrich the conversation and deepen people's understanding of ideas. Perhaps, this could be conceptualized as "waging good conflict" (Jean Baker Miller), which means practicing radical respect for differences and being open to a variety of perspectives and engaging others without contempt or rankism. As we have seen in many fields, contempt and rankism drain energy away from the important work that needs to be done. Most people only know "conflict" as a form of war within a win/lose frame. "Waging good conflict," on the other side, is about being empathic and respectful, making room for authenticity, creating clarity, and growth.
Please read An Appreciative Frame: Beginning a Dialogue on Human Dignity and Humiliation, that Linda has written in 2005.

Reflections of the ICT Seagulls (2)

Hi,
I tried to reach at you through telephone but I could not.
As we expected, the ICT Seagulls Award ceremony passed in an excellent manner. So, I would like to thank you once more for that fruitful and joyful project we have conducted for years. I present my love and respect to you on behalf of our volunteers and children under the umbrella of our Association. We had dreamed Yeşim's attendance to the Ceremony who had guided the project for years with a great achievement. Thanks God, we managed it. I am also grateful to you for giving her a chance of sharing her thoughts and feelings with the audience during the opening talks. It has been a big surprise for us. In the coming years, we will go on following you and ICT Seagulls with Yeşim. We wish you good luck in India.
With love and respect.

Reflections of the ICT Seagulls (1)

Hi to every Seagull,
One more Award Ceremony is over leaving nice memories to the future.
ICT Seagulls Award Ceremonies do not carry/show any similarities with the others. They are unique with their contents_love, wisdom, tolerance, respect to labour, imece (collaboration) spirit and quality-focus. Dedicated project leaders put their huge hearts into the projects, they share and care all the other projects adding value to the teaching-learning process of the teams coming from different regions of Turkey and also many unusual memories are lived.
In fact, its beauty lies in a reflection... It is the reflection of Dr. Hayal Köksal's and her dearest husband Servet Köksal's heartful loves and passions and always smiling faces of them for such kind of a meeting. I believe the source of such kind of love and respect is their commitment to the education of children. I know, even sharing the same environment with them adds many drops of joy for one...
Meanwhile, I would like to thank my dearest collagues who helped the organization and then met us in Muğla. My heartful thanks go to each of them. We also would like to thank the Mayor of Akyaka_Mr. Ahmet Çalca who hosted us with a huge smile on his face and shared his projects for the future of his town. We wish good luck for his wonderful projects. We also might be volunteer for his projects as Seagulls.
I am once more grateful to that organization through which I have had the chance of meeting my ex-team members who are still attending the Boarding Primary School of Ağrı-Diyadin. My team and I would like to congratulate all ICT Seagulls teams for their hard work, commitment to quality and for the extra ordinary presentations on the stage. I hope next year, we all will meet again.
I send my good wishes from Velimeşe Primary School of Çorlu/Tekirdağ...

Supporting the Disabled...duty and responsibility!

Dear all,
I have been honoured by the President of the Association for Solidarity with Physically Impaired last June. I have been determined as one of the members of the Advisory Council of the above mentioned NGO. President, Mr.Kemal demirel is also a physically disabled man; a very dedicated and hard working gentleman with a huge army of volunteers behind him. I want to share his broshure to invite some supporters to his association. The poster is in Turkish but you can visit their web page and send e mails to support them. You can also do this through my e-mail. The man in the poster is one of the most famous actors of Turkish Cinema Art_Mr.Ediz Hun. He is also one of the members of the Advisory Council, supporting the disabled people. We are grateful to him for that wonderful support. For we all know that actors, actresses and artists are the most sensitive and contemporary people of the community. They are and must be the real leaders for the future generations. They are their role models.

Boğaziçi Conferences with EREC and NYIT

(Hayal Köksal & Carol A. Dahir)
Dear Colleagues,
I have had very productive and interesting days recently. After meeting with the Advisory Board members of the NGO for Physically disabled (http://www.bedd.org.tr/), we made a radio program with Mr. Ahmet Bağbekleyen, who is a disabled member of the above-mentioned NGO and a program-maker of Cem Radio. I have been impressed a lot with the power of his will.
On the other hand, I was invited as one of the keynote speakers of the Bogazici Educational Conferences which was held for the second time with the collaboration of the Education and Research Student Club of Bogazici University (EREC), New York Institute of Technology, University of North Florida and American School Couselor Association. It was very fruitful and we have improved new projects with an İmece spirit. We compared the couselor training programs in USA and in Turkey. We conducted 2 workshops concerning the educational problems of both countries. I would like to congratulate the president of EREC who was my ex-student, Abdullah, other EREC members and especially Olcay. It was a good meeting as a student club activity. It was fascinating to be able to collect such large number of participants on the very warm days of the Summer. Talks focused mainly on "Counseling" teachers, their training and also their working problems. 2 fruitful workshops and their outcomes will be formed as a paper soon by the speakers, I believe.
Prof.Dr. Carol A. Dahir, from the School of Education, New York Institute of Technology, along with her 10 student teachers and also Prof.Dr. Carolyn B. Stone from the University of North Florida-past president of the American School Counselor Association, conducted a workshop on their wonderful book; "Measure". Dear Assoc. Prof.Dr.Deniz Albayrak Kaymak from the Counseling Department of Boğaziçi University presented the curriculum of counseling departments in Turkey. I shared my experiences with a paper titled; "In Teacher Training; from theory to practice".
The temperatures will decrease from then on, I hope, and thus, we will be able to collect the necessary energy to work. Our main issues from then on will be:

- the preparation of my books for their 2nd editions and

- our preparations related to the 12. ICSQCC in Lucknow, India.

Those would like to go and observe the educational system and SQCCs movement in City Montessori School and also to present a paper there should get in touch with me_the director general of the WCTQEE and a member of the Organizing Committee of the event. We should finalize the list asap_the deadline is 15th August. Those who want to present a paper there should obey those dates.
However, due to the holiday issue we will be able to inform CMS concerning the İmece Circles of the schools during the first days of September. School leaders must determine the participating student-parent-principal and teacher lists until the first days of September. They should also determine who will participate in, to which stream (Case study, Collage, Poster, Debate, Drama,...). Those who would like to participate in the Turkish Delegation as an observer should also contact us until September.
It will be an unforgattable experience for you to be visiting a great Convention on a UNESCO Peace Awarded school which has been applying Montessori system with 35 thousand students on the way of training TQPs. It is incredible! I will inform all the participating people to the Convention in the Turkish delegation with a large meeting and share the rules and regulations to represent our country in a perfect manner. I believe you will manage your time of the way of applying the Convention (http://www.cmseducation.org/). As being the Past Convener and a member of the Organizing Committee of this year's event, I know 2 issues will be of a great importance for Turkish delegation:
1. Our world-wide known artist Ms. Su Yücel will come with us and she will open an Art Exhibition there with her 14 pieces of art. As you knmow, she is the granddaughter of Mr. Hasan Ali Yücel who was the father of Village Institutions. And those schools were opened with the instruction of Atatürk, but lasted only 10 years.
2. The International Award Ceremony ıf the 6th ICT Seagulls Competition will be hosted by CMS.
I am thankful to Mr. Jagdish Gandhi and Dr. Vineeta Kamran for these wonderful decisions. THANK YOU!
I believe very excited and fruitful days have been looking forward to meeting us. :) Our target number for the Turkish delegation is 30. Please call me. My cellular is: +90 532 373 84 87.
With love and peace...

Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to share an announcement with you. The Education and Research Student club (EREC) of Bogazici University organizes a three-day international educational seminar. The main issue will be the comparison of the teacher training programs. I will be one of the speakers. I am proud of my students. ı know they are on the way of being the best educators of the future.

Schools Close

Dear Dosts,
Today, schools in Turkey close. They will open on 24th September after the Ramadan. All the students and teachers will have a looong holiday. While attending the classes, it might be difficult and tiring to be in the position of a student. However, everyone will soon discover that life is a school. It is never limited by the walls. Walls and borders within us. When we are ornamented with "Life-long learning philosophy", we will have started the "continuous improvement process" which is the basic target of living.

We also in Boğaziçi University collected the Final Exam projects, assessed them and handed in the results to the Administration. All of my 47 students were very successful, innovative and creative this term. I feel proudful with them (See the photo above). They created wonderful projects based upon the PDCA Mindset. They formed SQCCs and learned how to apply this methodology to their future classes as teacher trainess. I wish "Good Luck" to all of them. Without them, my life would be meaningless.
2009 ICT Seagulls Projects ended. Now peer-assessment process is on. We extended the deadline of peer-assessment to 20th June. Be aware of this change! I have been looking forward to having the forms. With love and peace...

Recent News

Dear All,
Today I would like to share three issues with you:
1. Our 12-day trip to UK ended and we returned home. It was our first vist to our newly-married daughter and son-in-law. We are thankful to them for giving us that wonderful feeling. We wish them a long and happy life.
2. The projects for the challenged increased recently. It is fascinating. Last wednasday we participated in a "CircyCircus" show organized by Kabataş High School and TİV (The Foundation for the Deaf Children for 0-6 age groups). The collaboration of High school students and small deaf children was admirable. I congratulate all the participants.

Loves from UK

Dear All,
We have been visiting London since 15th May. It was a nice opportunity for us to visit our children and also some dearesr colleagues working in Kingston University. The weather also has been so nice to walk around. On Monday we were together with Mary, Chris, Richard and Chandra. Tonight we had a nice talk with Mr. and Mrs. Paresh Kathrani at Landmark Hotel listening to music. We love all our friends and feel grateful to God for having them.
Tomorrow we will be in Devon. Tuesday we will fly for Istanbul. With love and peace.

Recent News About Us

Dear All,
I have been in London for a few days. I have to follow the latest news in my country through the e-journals. I feel sad for being away during such important events. Here are some of them. I took them from the English page of daily Hürriyet. According to the headlines of daily Cumhuriyet 19th May 2009 witnessed two important events. One was about the commomoration of great leader Ataturk and the other one was about a great loss_ loss of one of Ataturk's daughters; Prof.Dr. Türkan Saylan. You can see her 2 photos above. She was struggling with cancer since 1990 but she comğpleted successfully very important projects for the education of Turkish girls.
INDEPENDENCE EXCITEMENT:
"...We respectfully commemorate Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, on the anniversary of his lighting the independence torch. The May 19th Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day will be celebrated throughout Turkey, in foreign representations and in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, or TRNC, with ceremonies. President Abdullah Gul, in his May 19th Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day address, said that the pride of having a past full of victories will be felt once again on this day presented by Ataturk to the nation’s youth..."
DAUGHTER OF LIGHT:
"...We have lost Prof. Turkan Saylan, passionate for contemporary values and pioneer of education and science. Saylan, president of the Association for Support of Contemporary Living, or CYDD, who dedicated her life firstly to the fight against leprosy, and then to the education of girls, has passed away. Her last words were; "I completed all of my appointments, I fulfilled all of my duties. Now I am ready to die... ".
My visit to London will last until 26th. Then, I will be back to Istanbul to deal with 2009 ICT Seagulls Projects.
With love and peace.

Lecture, Ceremony & Concert

Dear All,
Yesterday was a wonderful day! First of all, our Village Institution graduate teacher_ Mr. Mehmet Sazak_ gave a lecture to my students at Boğaziçi University about his experiences at the Village Institution in 1940s. Later that very informative and fruitful talk, there was an historical ceremony at the Albert Long Hall of the University. The rector and two deans (Engineering and Educational faculties) presented two honorary doctorate titles to Prof.Dr.Türkan Saylan who is a great NGO leader, a medical professor devoted her life to combatting with Lepra and a wellkown Atatürk daughter. After the ceremony, the famous Turkish pianist Fazıl Say presented a small concert. It was excellent. I will write my blog from London from then on. Have a good time.
